Talks With Theresa Marie: Positivity

Positivity can be tricky. Sometimes it’s hard to be positive, or see the positivity in a bad situation, but being positive is key. Talking about positivity is super important and I think it’s something that should be talked about way more than it is which is why I am writing this post.

“Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results.”

— Willie Nelson

This quote really resonates with me. If you have negative thoughts or actions, you will never see positivity. A real life example that I have experienced is with grades in school. During my Fall semester of junior year in college I was taking an investments course, this is required for finance majors. I never understood all the concepts and why it had to be so much information for the simple idea of investing, except it’s not simple. Well, I failed the first test terribly. After that, I was so negative about the class, blaming the teacher and not realizing I was the problem. I couldn’t grasp the concepts because I had a negative attitude, not because I didn’t understand them. As the midterm exam was approaching, I knew I needed to change my attitude and study hard, so I purchased the Chegg Study subscription and guess what I passed the midterm. Now, I’m not going to tell you I passed it with a high 90 because that would be lying, I was in the 70s, but I truly think if I didn’t change my attitude and I kept those negative ideas would I have passed that test?

Positive attitudes can really change your life and who you are. Of course there will be times when a negative outlook is needed, but keep those positive thoughts always and you will succeed. Positivity comes with maturity and self love. You need those two things first. If you land a job interview and they offer the job to someone else, you can do 1 of 2 things: 1) you can be negative and most likely be searching for a job longer than anticipated, or 2) you can see the positive side and realize “maybe I wasn’t the best fit for the job, I hope the new employee is” and then every job opportunity will be knocking.

Positivity is an attitude, it’s an outlook, it’s a way of living. Radiate positivity from yourself and those around you will be positive too.
