Talks With Theresa Marie: Exploring Your Own City

This past Wednesday, I went to the city with my best friend. For those of you who don’t know, I live in NY and Manhattan is only a short train ride away. We’re both on spring break from school so we decided to plan a city day. Wednesday was 70° F here which was beautiful, but walking in concrete jungle with millions of people on a hot day is not so fun.

I actually don’t travel to the city much, so I don’t know which streets to take, where the nicest places are etc., luckily my friend does. We began our journey out of Penn Station and onto the streets. We walked to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) which is not so far from Penn. MoMA has the most interesting and beautiful art work. I love going to museums. Looking at the art and trying to figure out how the artist felt when they made it is my favorite part. It was actually my first time at this museum too so it was really cool to experience. Like I said, I live in NY, but hardly ever go to the city.

Exploring your own city can really shock you. There are so many beautiful places I never would’ve seen if I didn’t go to the city on Wednesday. I also learned a little about the streets. Explore your city. See what you’re living in, take in the beautiful scenery and be thankful you live there. Honestly, NYC is so beautiful to me. There’s something about the look of an old brownstone building, the skyscrapers, even an empty bench in Central Park that make me love this city. Exploring your own city is so much fun and you will definitely learn and see things you never did before.
