How To Stay Productive During Summer

Staying productive during the summer time can honestly be extremely hard, especially if you have no job. During the school year, we’re all so motivated and pumped up and then summer comes around and we get lazy, well personally I do. This post is going to be my tips on how to stay productive during summer. Let’s get into it!

Tip 1

Use a planner! Most people only use planners during the school year which is totally reasonable, but it’s good to plan out your days/weeks even during the summer! We get so caught up in the sun that we can easily forget we have plans. There’s a lot of parties, weddings, BBQ’s, etc during the summer so keeping those documented in a planner will help you keep track of everything. I use my planner everyday and plan out everything. I even write down upcoming blog posts and my fitness/health goals in it. A planner is great to use all year round.

Tip 2

Wake up at the same time everyday. It’s summer get outside and do things! Don’t sleep the whole day away. I personally love waking up at the same time everyday. I wake up at 9:30am, even on the weekends. I don’t like sleeping passed 9:30 unless I’m sick and can’t move. I’m not saying to wake up at the crack of dawn, but waking up at the same time everyday will motivate you, and you’ll get a lot more done if you’re awake at a reasonable time, instead of sleeping in till 2 in the afternoon.

Tip 3

This tip goes along with waking up at the same time everyday, and that is making your bed as soon as you get out of it. During the summer if my bed isn’t made I’m going to jump right into it 20 minutes after waking up. Which is not good. When my bed is made, I feel so productive and I’ll sit at my desk and get so much more done than if it wasn’t made. A messy bed, no matter how comfy it may look is such a distraction. I get distracted, tired, and cranky if I’m trying to work at my desk and my bed is all disheveled next to me. So make your bed as soon as you get up, even if you’re staying home all day.

Tip 4

Read. Read. Read. Honestly, I love reading and I wish I could read more during the school year as well, but that’s never going to happen. Reading during the summer, keeps your mind flowing and learning. It helps stimulate your brain and will help when September rolls around to jump back into the school routine. It doesn’t have to be a 500 page novel, just read or listen to an audio book. I love to read while I’m laying on the beach or by the pool. It’s super relaxing and just makes me feel super productive. If you read a page or a chapter a day you’ll feel so much more productive than if you didn’t pick up a book till school starts again.

Tip 5

Make fun plans with friends. Don’t be afraid to text someone first to make plans. It’s the summer you should be doing fun things with your friends! Go to the beach/pool, out to lunch, go to a coffee shop, on a boat ride, hiking. Really anything that will get you out of the house and cause you to have fun! One of my friends and I favorite thing to do is go to Arboretums, aquariums, museums, hiking, etc. Time with friends in the summer is the best time. Take photos and document these times!

Tip 6 

Be Healthy. Being healthy during the summer will make you feel super productive. During the summer you have more time to focus on yourself. Whether this is working out, meal prepping, eating better, anything that’ll keep you productively healthy is great. For me, I started going to personal training. It’s been keeping me super busy and working towards my fitness/health goals all summer long.

Tip 7 

Do things that you’ve always wanted to do. By this I mean, go on vacation someplace you’ve always dreamed about, go bungie jumping, hiking, cliff diving, anything exciting! Go on an adventure! These things will make you feel so good and happy that it’ll keep you wanting more.

    These are great ideas. I’m a teacher and though I love being off in the summer, part of me dreads it and wonders if I can handle all of that extra time. I do have a child so that kinda forces me up, but I need to be more mindful of setting goals, making my bed, and being healthy. This couldn’t have come at a more approriate time. Thanks!
