Yoga has recently become a workout essential for me. I do at least a 15 minute yoga sequence every morning when I wake up and I feel it really helps me throughout the day. Morning yoga or yoga in general is very beneficial to not only your body, but also your mind. Yoga reduces stress on your body which leads to stress being reduce in your mind as well. I like to do my yoga during the morning, but any time you do a yoga sequence is fine. I’ve never tried it at night, but I’m sure that would lead to great sleep. For this post I’ve put together 5 Yoga Poses that I find reduce stress the most. Scroll down to see what those 5 are. Namaste.
- Child’s Pose (Balasana)
Child’s pose is known as a resting pose. This pose relieves back tension and stress by the amount of stretching it does. This is an essential quiet pose. I do this pose in my morning sequence as the last one, to ensure I have a calm day.
- Corpse Pose (Savasana)
Corpse Pose is just what it says. You lay flat on your back with your arms at your sides and close your eyes. You just lay there and breathe deeply. Laying flat on the floor is actually known to help reduce back tension so this pose does that, along with reducing stress in the mind. You aren’t moving or doing anything special. You just lay there and breathe. It’s a good time to turn off your mind and not focus on anything but your breathing.
- Legs-Up-The-Wall Pose (Viparita Karani)
Now I know everyone does this pose. Most people don’t know that this is actually a yoga pose. A lot of people do this for fun because it really does help you relax. For this pose you could lie on a bed with your legs straight on the wall or lie on the floor and do it. I’ve done both but it is more comfortable on the bed. Besides relaxing you and helping reduce your stress, this pose also brings the blood from your legs/feet back to the heart.
- Cat Pose (Marjaryasana)
Cat pose is a great pose if you need to relieve lower back tension. I suffer from this so this pose is essential for me. This pose will also ‘massage’ the spine which will relieve a lot of tension. Back tension is one of the biggest factors that lead to stress. If you have back pain most likely your neck will hurt too creating stress headaches. This pose really helps with those.
- Standing Forward Bend (Uttanasana)
This pose can be very annoying and a little difficult because it stretches not only your back but your legs. For this pose you bend your knees a bit and reach all the way to your toes keeping your back flat. Although a little difficult, this pose is great for reducing stress and tension. This pose is thought to relieve stress, fatigue, and depression. I think it does in a way. You stop thinking about everything else and really focus on your breathing and the pose. You forget all the stress for a while.
Well that’s it for this post! I hope you learned something. If you try any of these let me know how they work for you!
